Shelby Voelz (RHP, Sacramento State)
Sacramento State SO RHP Desiree Beltran has been named the PCSC Coastal Division Pitcher of the Week.

PORTLANDSacramento State sophomore right-hander Shelby Voelz and Portland State freshman right-hander Anna Bertrand have been named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Pitchers of the Week, while Hornet sophomore shortstop Desiree Beltran and Viking senior second baseman Becca Diede have earned PCSC Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.

Voelz earned Coastal Division Pitcher of the Week honors by posting a 0.89 ERA, despite posting a 1-2 record. The Vancouver, Wash., native tossed a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over UC Riverside on Friday, striking out four and walking one. She limited No. 11 Stanford to one run on three hits over six innings in suffering a tough 1-0 loss. In three appearances last week, Voelz limited opponents to a .145 batting average over 15 2/3 innings. She allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits and eight walks, while fanning eight.

Bertrand went 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA and struck out 23 in 16 innings over four appearances, including two starts, at UCLA’s Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, to earn Mountain Division Pitcher accolades. Bertrand suffered a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly on Friday, despite throwing a one-hitter as a Portland State error led to the game’s only run in the eighth inning. She earned a 12-6 decision over Cal State Northridge on Sunday, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks, while striking out six in four innings of work.

Beltran, from Agoura Hills, Calif., hit safely in five-of-six of Sacramento State’s games last week en route to being named the Coastal Division Player of the Week. The 2009 PCSC Freshman of the Year hit .500, going 8-for-16 with one home run, one double and five RBI. She was also walked three times, including one free pass, to post a .600 on-base percentage.

Diede, from Broomfield, Colo., hit .450 with five doubles and five RBI in six games for Portland State to be named the PCSC Mountain Division Player of the Week. Diede hit safely in 4-of-6 games, recording a .700 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
